The Russian Ministry of Defence said on Friday that it has shot down 124 Ukrainian assault drones over several regions across the country.
The massive drone assault launched by Kiev Targeted 14 different provinces in Russia, the Ministry said in a statement.
Bryansk Region appears to have been targeted the most, with a total of 37 UAVs shot down there, the statement read.
Additional 20 drones were intercepted and shot down above the territory of the Ryazan region, 17 above the Kursk region and 17 above the Saratov region, they said.
The ministry further said that at least six UAVs were destroyed over the Moscow Region and one more over the Russian capital.
Meanwhile, air defence units were activated in the Rostov, Belgorod, Voronezh, Tula, Orel, Lipetsk, and Leningrad regions, as well as in Crimea, it added.
Following the massive assault, flights have been disrupted at the Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports in Moscow as well as at the airports in Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Penza, Samara, and Saratov during the drone raid, Russia’s federal air transport agency, Rosaviatsia, said.
Kiev intensified its fixed-wing drone assaults into Russia in early 2024, mainly targeting energy infrastructure but also hitting some of the residential areas.
Moscow responded by adding Ukrainian power plants to its list of legitimate military targets, destroying or disabling most of the country’s non-nuclear electricity generation.
Furthermore, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his wish to meet US President Donald Trump after the US Administration set a 100-day deadline to end the conflict in Ukraine.
