As the war intensifies across the Middle East with fresh attacks reported in Iran, Israel, Bahrain and Kuwait, Russia has warned the US and Israel against further escalation, cautioning that it could completely destabilise the region.
This comes at a time when United States and Israeli forces have started targeting Iran’s bridges and other civilian infrastructure, while Iran has struck Tel Aviv and US bases in Gulf countries.
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, called for an immediate end to the escalation and warned that the US and Israel were “playing with fire”.
“The unprecedented escalation of violence in the Middle East is unfortunately affecting countries friendly to the Russian Federation,” he said at a UN Security Council meeting.
He directly criticised the Trump administration and Israel for launching “an unjustified act of aggression by the United States and Israel against the sovereign territory of Iran.”
Russia and China, while remaining on the sidelines of the conflict, have strongly supported Iran’s right to self-defence.
Both nations have repeatedly spoken out against US and Israeli aggression at various diplomatic platforms, including the United Nations and the UN Security Council.
While US President Donald Trump claimed that American forces were nearing their war objectives, concerns over the targeting of Iranian civilian infrastructure have been raised multiple times at the UN in recent weeks.
