Russia has reportedly lost more than 120,000 soldiers against Ukraine since the start of the war in 2022, reports said on Monday.
The figures, though contested, were released on Friday by an independent media source, which was later quoted by several prominent international news outlets on Monday.
According to reports, nearly one-third of the 120,343 deaths were volunteers who signed a contract after the war began.
There have been some documented 120,000 casualties in the Ukraine-Russia war since 2014-2024.
The reports claiming Russian losses alone account for that number are pure exaggeration by the Western media outlets.
According to some independent researchers and OSINT sources, the numbers are quite opposite to what is being claimed by the international media.

The Ukrainian battle casualties range from twice to three times higher than those of the Russians. The possibility could be that the Ukrainian side has incurred heavy battle losses.
According to the US State Department, the actual battle losses in the Ukraine-Russia war are fixed at 500,000, though it does not provide specifics of how it managed to put numbers so high without verifying them.
Realistically, Russian forces have gained some 4,168 square kilometres of Ukrainian land in 2024, according to geolocated evidence collected by the Washington, DC-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
It seems quite impossible that Russia would bear humongous losses against a lesser potent enemy with a mediocre air force and leave itself vulnerable to stronger Nations.
It appears that the Ukrainian battle lines are crumbling against a unified counterassault led by the Russian and North Korean forces.
Additionally, Russia gained Avdiivka, Selydove, Vuhledar, and Kurakhove, four mid-sized settlements, the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War reported.
Logically, seeing how both sides have resorted to propaganda in this war, it seems highly unlikely that either of the two would be revealing the exact number of the battle losses they have suffered so far.
Though there is a possibility that these numbers, if not in millions or in lakhs, are surely in several thousand from both sides.
