In one of the most extensive aerial assaults in recent weeks, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack across Ukraine, with explosions echoing through the capital, Kyiv, and several other regions leaving atleast three dead.
The assault, which began just after midnight, according to sources has caused significant damage to the capital city.
The fatalities were reported from different parts of the country, including Lutsk in the northwest, Dnipro in the east, and Zaporizhzhia in the south.
In Lutsk, an apartment block was struck, leading to the death of one resident, according to local authorities.
Ukraine's air force warned that 11 Russian TU-95 strategic bombers were in the air and confirmed the launch of numerous missiles.
The aerial attack was marked by multiple groups of Russian drones targeting the eastern, northern, southern, and central regions, followed by waves of cruise and ballistic missiles.
The governors of the southern regions of Odesa and Zaporizhzhia, as well as the northern region of Kharkiv, confirmed explosions and urged residents to seek shelter immediately.
In Lviv, located in western Ukraine, Governor Maksym Kozytskyi reported that Russian forces targeted energy facilities, leading to partial power outages across the region.
This latest offensive follows a series of Russian attacks over the weekend that targeted Ukraine’s frontline regions of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk, resulting in the deaths of at least four people and injuries to 37 others.
As the war drags on, both sides continue to deny targeting civilians, despite the mounting casualties and devastation since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
