Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi in Riyadh to discuss regional developments and the status of their bilateral relations. This meeting marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to rebuild ties between the two countries, which have had strained relations in the past.

According to local reports, the discussions between the leaders revolved around strengthening diplomatic engagement and exploring ways to ensure stability in the region.

While specific details from the meeting have not been disclosed, the conversation was aimed at advancing the process of de-escalation between Saudi Arabia and Iran, a critical issue for both countries as they navigate complex geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East.

The visit also included a meeting between Araghchi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah. The two diplomats reviewed key regional developments and discussed strategies for reinforcing cooperation.

Both sides emphasised the importance of working together to resolve tensions and create a more peaceful environment in the region. Although the exact outcomes of these talks remain under wraps, the discussions are seen as part of the broader efforts to solidify the thaw in relations between the two regional powers.

In April of last year, Saudi Arabia and Iran officially announced the restoration of diplomatic relations after years of tension. The breakthrough came after several rounds of diplomatic negotiations, facilitated by international mediation, signalling a willingness on both sides to move toward reconciliation.

This marked the end of a seven-year rift that began in 2016 when Saudi Arabia severed ties following attacks on its diplomatic missions in Iran. These attacks were triggered by Saudi Arabia’s execution of a prominent Shiite cleric, which led to widespread protests and a significant diplomatic fallout.
