Twelve people were injured after a vessel caught fire at a shipyard in China's Fujian province on Thursday, prompting an emergency response from local authorities and fire services. The incident occurred in the afternoon at the premises of Century Huahai (Fujian) Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co Ltd in Gantang township of Fu'an City.

The fire reportedly broke out aboard a vessel at the shipbuilding facility, although authorities have not immediately provided details about what caused the blaze or the nature of the work being carried out on the vessel at the time of the incident.

Twelve people were injured in the fire and were taken for medical attention. Details about the extent of their injuries were not immediately available.
Emergency personnel were deployed to the shipyard following the outbreak, with firefighting teams working to contain the flames and prevent the blaze from spreading to other parts of the facility or nearby vessels.

Authorities said the fire had been brought under control, reducing the immediate risk of the blaze spreading further within the shipyard. The incident site was expected to remain under the supervision of emergency and local authorities as officials began assessing the situation.

Shipyards are industrial environments where workers routinely deal with heavy machinery, welding equipment, fuel, electrical systems and other materials that can increase the risk of fires and industrial accidents. Fires aboard vessels under construction or repair can also pose additional challenges because of the confined spaces and complex structures involved.

The incident at the Fujian shipyard has highlighted the importance of safety measures at large industrial facilities, particularly those involved in shipbuilding and heavy engineering. Such facilities typically employ large numbers of workers and handle a wide range of equipment and materials during construction, maintenance and repair operations.

Authorities have not yet released information on whether the fire caused significant damage to the vessel or the shipyard's infrastructure. It was also not immediately clear whether operations at the facility had been suspended following the incident.

An investigation is likely to focus on the circumstances surrounding the outbreak, including the possible source of ignition and whether established safety procedures were being followed at the time. Further details are expected to emerge as authorities assess the site and speak to workers and other witnesses.

The incident comes amid China's continued expansion of its shipbuilding and marine manufacturing industry. Fujian, located on China's southeastern coast, has an established maritime and industrial sector, with shipyards and other facilities supporting the country's extensive shipping and marine industries.

For now, the priority remains ensuring that the injured workers receive appropriate medical treatment and that the area remains safe. Authorities have confirmed that the fire has been brought under control, while further assessments are expected to determine the extent of damage and the precise circumstances that led to the blaze.

Local authorities have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the condition of the injured or whether any further casualties were reported. Updates are expected as emergency officials and investigators continue their work at the shipyard.

The incident underscores the potential hazards associated with shipbuilding operations and the need for strict adherence to industrial fire-safety protocols to protect workers and prevent accidents from escalating.
