A rare scene was witnessed in Saudi Arabia on Monday morning following a snowfall that occurred in the northern parts of the country after more than 30 years.

The snowfall occurred in the Tuwaiq mountain range in the west near the capital, Riyadh. The rare sight has fuelled excitement and enthusiasm among the local population.

Saudi Arabia, known for its desert and rough climate with hot and humid temperatures, is witnessing this phenomenon due to climate change, according to experts.

Snowfall has transformed several parts of the nation into a surprising winter wonderland. Videos posted by social media accounts show kids and young adults enjoying and celebrating the rare sighting near Riyadh.

The meteorologists describe the event as a recurring winter phenomenon in elevated places like Tabuk, and hail is driven by air masses clashing with regional moisture. Its scenic beauty, however, has gone viral.

From a climate perspective, experts have noted that global warming amplifies weather conditions, making such intense cold snaps and precipitation events more unpredictable in vulnerable regions.

The national meteorological agency (NCM) had earlier forecasted a steep decline in Temperatures across the northern parts of the country and advised people to remain cautious while heading out.

Besides, the Trojena highlands in the country, in the Tabuk region, also witnessed an unseasonal snowfall in the previous week.
