Sudan envoy blames UAE for arming RSF militants.

A senior Sudanese diplomat on Monday accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of war crimes in the country's North Darfur region.

Survivors of the hospital massacre reported mass killings and sexual assaults committed by the militant organisation.

Sudan’s ambassador to Egypt, Imadeldin Mustafa Adawi, on Sunday claimed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is arming the RSF in the civil war, a claim that the UAE denies.

However, the UAE previously supported the organisation during the civil war that erupted in the wake of the Arab Spring in 2011.

Adawi urged the international community to designate the RSF a “terrorist” organisation, condemn its “genocide” in el-Fasher, and denounce the UAE as its financier.

The Sudanese government has threatened to boycott negotiations mediated by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the US, and the UAE if the latter remain in support of the RSF.

Prime Minister Kamil Idris called for RSF leaders to face international courts but rejected foreign troop deployment.

Sudan has been grappling with violent clashes since April 2023. Earlier this week, RSF militants captured el-Fasher, the last stronghold of the Sudanese army, after an 18-month siege.

Sources said more than 2,000 people had died during the siege, including civilians. However, eyewitnesses to the recent assault believed actual numbers were much higher.

They said the RSF killed everyone without showing any mercy to even women and children.

Meanwhile, UN agencies reported thousands missing, with tens of thousands still trapped in the besieged el-Fasher.

According to the US Council on Foreign Relations, “as many as 150,000 people have been killed since the conflict began on April 15, 2023.

More than 14 million have been displaced, triggering one of the worst displacement crises in the world. Nearly 3 million displaced Sudanese have fled to neighbouring countries, including Chad, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.”
