Three 18-year-old Indian-origin students die in US car crash

Three Indian-American students were killed and two others injured in a car crash, which police said was a single-vehicle incident in the US state of Georgia last week.

 

All of them were 18 years old.


The deceased were identified as Sriya Avasarala, Anvi Sharma and Aryan Joshi, passengers in a car that police believed was being driven at high speed on the basis of evidence found on site. It flipped off the road and into the tree lineon Westside Parkway in Alpharetta, according to local police, a PTI report said.

 

Two of the occupants, Joshi and Avasarala, were found dead at the scene of the accident. The other three occupants were transported to North Fulton Hospital for treatment where Sharma succumbed to injuries, Alpharetta police said in a statement.

 

Rithwak Somepalli, a Georgia State University student and driver of the vehicle, and Mohammed Liyakath, a senior at Alpharetta High School, were identified as the other two students who were injured.

 

Avasarala and Sharma were heading into their sophomore year at the University of Georgia students. Joshi was a senior at Alpharetta High School.

 

Investigations are continuing. Initial data gathered it is believed that speed may have been a factor in the crash, the statement said.
