United States President Donald Trump has announced plans to travel to Hungary for a possible meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said he would do everything in his capacity to end what he calls the "inglorious" war between Russia and Ukraine. During the Gaza peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, hosted by Egypt, Trump called for a negotiated settlement for the Ukraine war.
While ending the two-year-long war, which killed more than 67,967 people in Gaza, Trump hinted towards settling the ongoing war between Russia and West-backed Ukraine. Trump is likely to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington later today to discuss the next possible steps in the context of ending this war.
Earlier, Trump met Zelenskyy as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin to deliberate on the ceasefire in Ukraine. Trump spoke with Putin by phone on Thursday. He described the call as "productive".
After their conversation, he told reporters that he will be meeting Putin for the second time “over the next two weeks". He had already met him in Alaska earlier this year. He also said they agreed to arrange a meeting of senior officials next week. The US side will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said that the call lasted nearly two and a half hours and was "very useful". Putin has warned Trump over the deployment of the long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, saying that such a move would cause significant damage to their relationship.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet with Trump at the White House on Friday. He posted on social media that he had already arrived in Washington. The two leaders are likely to discuss the Tomahawks. Zelenskyy also criticised Putin, saying he is in a rush to resume dialogue because of the missile threat.
