US President Donald Trump has alleged that a series of technical failures at the United Nations were acts of deliberate sabotage, ordering the Secret Service to investigate what he described as “triple sabotage.”
Trump claimed that during his visit to the UN, he encountered three separate incidents that he believed were orchestrated: a stalled escalator, a blackout of his teleprompter, and a faulty sound system.
“A REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday — Not one, not two, but three very sinister events!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, calling the mishaps near accidents that placed him and First Lady Melania Trump at risk.
The President said the first incident occurred when the escalator leading to the Main Speaking Floor suddenly stopped. “It’s amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first. It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly or it would have been a disaster,” he said, accusing UN staff of “absolute sabotage.” He cited a London Times report that UN workers had previously joked about shutting off an escalator.
Trump also complained that his teleprompter went “stone cold dark” while he was addressing world leaders.
“First the escalator event, and now a bad teleprompter. What kind of a place is this?” he said, adding that the device resumed functioning about 15 minutes later. He insisted his unscripted remarks had received “fantastic reviews.”
The President further alleged that the sound system in the UN auditorium malfunctioned, forcing world leaders to rely on interpreter earpieces.

“The first person I saw at the conclusion of the speech was Melania. She said, ‘I couldn’t hear a word you said.’ This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN,” Trump said.
Trump added that he would send a letter to the UN Secretary-General demanding an immediate probe and the preservation of all security footage related to the escalator stoppage. “The Secret Service is involved,” he said.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric later said an internal inquiry showed that a videographer from the US delegation may have “inadvertently triggered the safety function” on the escalator while rushing ahead of the President and First Lady.
But Trump and his aides rejected the explanation, suggesting a wider conspiracy. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the incident “unacceptable” and hinted it may not have been accidental.
“If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately,” Leavitt wrote on X.
