Patel, a long-time ally of President Trump, was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday after a narrow 51-49 vote.
All Senate Democrats opposed his nomination, while two Republican Senators, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, also voted against him.
However, he secured the backing of the remaining Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had previously opposed some of Trump's nominees, according to NBC News.
Following his confirmation, Patel expressed gratitude to President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi for their support.
He pledged to rebuild the FBI as a transparent and accountable institution dedicated to justice.
"I am grateful to President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi for their trust and support. I am committed to restoring public confidence in the FBI by ensuring it remains transparent, accountable, and focused on delivering justice," Patel said.
The confirmation marks a significant victory for the Trump administration as it seeks to reshape key federal agencies.
