Trump rejects claims of US strike plans on Venezuela.

United States President Donald Trump has rejected claims that he was planning to conduct strikes in Venezuela over the alleged connections of the Maduro Government to a Drug cartel network.

According to multiple White House sources, Trump was weighing a potential military strike on Venezuelan soil, with reports from Thursday suggesting that the US military had identified the possible targets, including “military facilities used to smuggle drugs”.

When asked about these contingencies, Trump outrightly rejected the claims, saying, “No. It’s not true.”

Meanwhile, considering the looming fears, the Venezuelan government has reportedly sought help from Moscow in case the US carries out potential strikes.

Observers in Caracas said the Maduro government views Trump as an unpredictable man, recalling his similar statements before authorising strikes on Iran, violating all agreements.

Since September, the US has destroyed at least 14 alleged cartel boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, killing more than 61 people, many of whom belong to Colombia.

Trump has deployed a small navy fleet in the region, including its most powerful aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, and authorised covert CIA operations inside Venezuela.

He said the US may carry out strikes inside Venezuela but added that Washington was not seeking regime change in the country.

Maduro rejected the allegations of having ties with the drug trafficking nexus known as Cartel-de-Soles (Cartel of Sun) and vowed to defend his country in case the US launches a ground-based operation.

Last week, he accused the US of “fabricating a new war” and called for peace. Colombian President Gustavo Petro also condemned Washington’s actions, saying that one of the strikes had killed ordinary citizens of his country.
