Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth has said that the United States is seeking to restore deterrence against China and Russia. China, with its massive military parade, displayed the newest nuclear bombs, CF-5, HQ-29anti-satellite missile systems, stealth 5th and 6th generation warfare aircraft, stealth drones, and the newest tanks.

This was followed by the unveiling of the latest class of YJ series all-purpose missiles, including the YJ 9, YJ 15, YJ 17, YJ 19, and YJ 21 multipurpose missiles.

Additionally, China displayed their space, cyber, information, and electromagnetic force, along with information assistance forces, for the first time since its creation. Beijing's military parade and the display of futuristic weapons have put the entire international community on notice.

During an interview, Hegseth said that the large military parade in Beijing on Wednesday, overseen by Xi Jinping and attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, is an indication of the collaboration that the two nations have.

He said, “Unfortunately, the weakness of the previous administration has driven Russia and China closer together. That was a terrible development of a lack of American leadership and a lack of American strength.”

“But that’s why President Trump has charged us at the Defence Department to be prepared, rebuild our military in historic ways, restore the warrior ethos, and re-establish deterrence,” he added. China has surpassed the West in its military tech and defence manufacturing.

China remains the only country in the world to possess anti-ballistic missile and anti-satellite weapon systems. Hegseth later clarified that although the US does not seek conflict with Russia or China, it aims to “maintain strategic advantage”. Both countries have condemned Washington’s “Cold War mentality” and pledged to work toward a fairer, more equitable model of international relations.
