US President Donald Trump has arrived in Malaysia as he kicks off a tri-nation Asia tour in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday.
His list of activities includes a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, a royal visit, trade talks with China and Brazil, and a possible meeting with North Korea's Kim Jong Un.
Chinese negotiators, including Li Chenggang and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, were in Malaysia to meet the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. This is the second time the two sides have met to defuse tensions over the ongoing trade tariffs. Both sides termed the second round of talks on Saturday constructive.
A positive outcome would remove roadblocks for a meeting between the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, and Donald Trump, who are meeting in South Korea on Thursday.
Trump on Sunday appeared to enjoy the grandiose welcome ceremony, with dancers and drummers as he walked down the tarmac.

He was received and greeted by the Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim upon arrival, with the occasion marked by fanfare. He will join the official signing of a peace deal between Thailand and Cambodia after their brief fighting episode that took place in May this year.
An interesting development before the 2025 ASEAN summit kicks off is that East Timor officially joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN, on Sunday, becoming the regional bloc's 11th member.
East Timor becomes the first new nation to be inducted into ASEAN since the 1990s.
The country achieved formal independence in 2000, after decades of struggle, following a UN-supervised referendum that overwhelmingly rejected continued integration with Indonesia.
