United States President Donald Trump has said that the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran is likely to hold despite fresh clashes in the Strait of Hormuz. He claimed that at least three US Navy destroyers successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz while “under fire” from Iranian forces.
He added that US forces destroyed several attack boats belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to Trump, the US Navy came under missile, drone, and attack boat fire from Iranian naval forces. He accused Iran’s leadership of being “lunatics” and warned that Tehran would face far more severe military action if it did not quickly agree to a deal.
While confirming that all three destroyers had joined the US fleet near the Hormuz, Trump described the American presence as a “Wall of Steel”.
He reiterated his desire for a quick peace deal with Iran, saying, “We’ll knock them out a lot harder and a lot more violently in the future if they don’t get their Deal signed, FAST!”In response, the Iranian side accused US forces of targeting Iran-linked oil tankers and another vessel near the UAE’s Fujairah port.
Iran also claimed that US air strikes hit civilian areas in Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island in southern Iran. Iranian air defences were reportedly active over western Tehran as well.
The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said its naval forces came under Iranian missile, drone, and fast-boat attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. It confirmed that US forces responded by eliminating “inbound threats” and targeting “Iranian military facilities responsible for attacking US forces”.
Local media in Iran reported that air defences were activated over Tehran in response to “hostile targets”.
