Former U.S. President and Republican candidate Donald Trump conveyed Diwali greetings on Thursday while denouncing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. He pledged to reinforce ties with India and called Prime Minister Narendra Modi “a good friend.”
Trump took to Truth Social to express his concerns, stating, “I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a total state of chaos.”
Trump’s remarks highlighted his support for global Hindu communities amid claims that his Democratic rivals, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, have neglected their plight.
Trump further criticised the current administration, remarking, “It would have never happened on my watch. Kamala and Joe have ignored Hindus across the world and in America. They have been a disaster from Israel to Ukraine to our own Southern Border, but we will Make America Strong Again and bring back Peace through Strength.”
The former president also promised support for Hindu Americans, pledging to protect them against what he termed “the anti-religion agenda of the radical left” and to strengthen the U.S.-India partnership.
“Under my administration, we will also strengthen our great partnership with India and my good friend, Prime Minister Modi,” he added.
Trump contrasted his economic approach with Harris’s, claiming she would “destroy your small businesses with more regulations and higher taxes,” while he had “cut taxes, cut regulations, unleashed American energy, and built the greatest economy in history.”
He vowed to “do it again, bigger and better than ever before.”
In closing, Trump wished all a happy Diwali, saying, “I hope the Festival of Lights leads to the Victory of Good over Evil.”
The former president is locked in a close race with Harris in the run-up to the 5 November presidential election.
