President Trump has been touting his friendly relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin for nearly a decade, but he lamented that Putin's warm words are ultimately "meaningless."

US President Donald Trump has hinted at a major announcement on Russia on Monday as the deadlock in the Ukraine peace talks continues to hamper the negotiated settlement In an interview on Thursday night, Trump said he would be making a major statement in Moscow, though he didn’t provide any specifics on what he was going to announce The US president said, “I think I'll have a major statement to make on Russia on Monday.”

Trump, earlier this week, expressed his frustration with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, after the two spoke on a lengthy phone call Trump, after his Phone conversation, told reporters that there was no progress made on the Ukraine war and its settlement via peace talks, which are likely to enter a third round since the two previous meetings ended in stalemate without positive results Russia has also intensified its military operations in Ukraine this past week, launching a series of coordinated missile and drone attacks on Kyiv, killing two and injuring 25 people on Thursday alone.

During the interview, Trump also said the US was sending weapons to NATO, adding that the Atlantic Alliance would "100 per cent" be paying for the weapons Trump, though unlikely to sign the bill slapping 500 per cent tariffs on the Russian goods imported by other countries, including the US and its trade partners, will go up in Congress shortly.

"They’re going to pass a very major and very biting sanctions bill, but it’s up to the president as to whether or not he wants to exercise it,” he added. His interview has triggered a massive wave of speculations in the political circles, where some say he might slap more sanctions on Russia over its continued attacks on Ukraine, while some speculate that he may propose a fresh deal to Russia to settle the conflict in Ukraine.
