Putin hails Trump’s crisis resolution efforts worldwide.

United States President Donald Trump thanked his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for his remarks on the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s decision not to award the US president its prestigious Peace Prize.

On Friday, Putin said that Russia would endorse Donald Trump’s name for the award, citing his efforts to end the war in Gaza.

Since taking office in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly claimed that his interventions have ended international conflicts, mediated historic pacts between longstanding rivals in Africa and Eurasian nations, and brought the Gaza war to an end, actions he believes merit the prize.

Speaking on Friday, the Russian president alleged that the Nobel Committee has a history of awarding peace medals to individuals who had “done nothing for peace,” thereby undermining the honour of the award.

Putin added that while it is not his concern to decide who receives the prize, Trump is “really doing a lot to resolve difficult crises, which last for years and decades.”

He also highlighted the US president’s recent mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East, as well as his efforts to bring the ongoing war in Ukraine to an end.

In response, Trump thanked Putin for his comments in a post on his Truth Social platform, sharing a screenshot of Putin speaking and declaring, “Thank you to President Putin!”

Meanwhile, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition politician Maria Corina Machado “for her tireless advocacy of democratic freedoms in Venezuela.”

Reacting to the committee’s decision in a post on X, White House communications director Steven Cheung stated that the committee had “proved they place politics over peace.”
