US President Donald Trump is set to begin talks with Arab leadership regarding his proposal to relocate Gazans to neighbouring countries while the enclave is being rebuilt, reports said.

However, Trump’s so-called rebuild relocation plan has drawn widespread condemnation from the international community.

Israeli president Isaac Herzog said that the US was not planning to take over Gaza militarily and urged neighbouring states like Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia to offer alternate solutions.

However, the Arab states have repeatedly rejected the idea and called it a “planned conspiracy of the US and Israel.”

“President Trump is due to meet with major, major Arab leaders, first and foremost, the king of Jordan and the president of Egypt, and I think also the crown prince of Saudi Arabia as well... They are partners that must be listened to and discussed with. We have to know their fields as well and see how we build a plan that is sustainable for the future,” Herzog said.

Trump’s alleged plan for Gaza envisions redevelopment into what he calls “the Riviera of the Middle East,” with displaced Palestinians initially relocating to Jordan, Egypt, and other Arab nations before some are resettled in the redeveloped territory.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during his televised press briefing, said this was the “first good idea” he had heard regarding the region’s future.

On the other hand, the Arab leadership has strongly rejected the proposal of rebuilding Gaza at the expense of temporarily dislocating its residents to other regional states.

The Arab League and Hamas have also dismissed the proposal, while multiple global powers, including Germany, France, Brazil, Russia, and China, have condemned the displacement idea.

Nations opposed to the plan argue that this forced relocation, even if it’s meant for a short time, would violate international law, and this could turn out to be the worst nightmare for Palestinians living in Gaza and call it a systematic “ethnic cleansing.”
