Trump to travel to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar next month

US President Donald Trump announced his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE next month. His trip comes amid tensions over Gaza and speculation about his potential third term, despite constitutional limits. The visit highlights US-Saudi economic ties.

President Trump arrives in Saudi Arabia with First Lady Melania on his first foreign tour in 2017.

US President Donald Trump has announced his upcoming visits to Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia next month. Trump revealed his travel plans while signing executive orders in the Oval Office.

When asked if the trip would take place in May, as previously reported, Trump responded, “It could be next month, maybe a little bit later.”

In response to a question about why Saudi Arabia was chosen as the first country for his foreign trip, Trump explained, “Riyadh pledged to invest nearly USD 1 trillion in US companies.”

His decision to visit Saudi Arabia first signals the close bilateral relations between the two countries, especially regarding development and economic cooperation.

The trip is being planned as the Trump administration works to resume a ceasefire in Gaza and push for the release of more hostages by Hamas.

However, US officials have confirmed that the ceasefire deal in Gaza is currently on hold, as Saudi Arabia insists on a time-bound, uncompromising reconstruction of the Palestinian state—a stance the Israeli government refuses to accept.

In a separate development, Trump sparked controversy during a telephonic interview aired on Sunday, where he suggested he may seek a third term in office despite constitutional restrictions.

Trump said, “There are methods which you could do it,” raising concerns about his intentions to challenge the constitutional amendment that limits presidents to two terms.

“I’m not joking,” Trump emphasised, though he added, “It is far too early to think about it.”

Under the US constitution, no individual is allowed to serve more than two terms as president. This limit was established following the unprecedented four consecutive terms of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The remarks have sparked significant debate, reflecting a continued desire by Trump to retain power, even after his previous attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, which he lost to former President Joe Biden.
