US President Donald Trump has again targeted India over its continued purchase of Russian oil, warning that he will “substantially” increase tariffs on Indian goods entering the United States.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that India is not only buying “massive amounts” of oil from Russia but is also selling much of it on the open market for significant profit.
“India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine,” Trump wrote.
He further declared: “Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA,” though he did not clarify what the new tariff rates would be.
Trump’s latest remarks come just days after he announced plans to impose a 25 per cent tariff on a range of goods imported from India, further heightening trade tensions.
