US President Donald Trump has said that Ukraine has shown zero commitment towards achieving peace with Russia ahead of the much-anticipated peace talks in Saudi Arabia.

When asked about the possibility of resuming military aid to Ukraine, Trump said, “I think they will sign the minerals deal. But I want them to want peace. Right now, they haven’t shown it to the extent that they should.”

“But I think they will be. I think it’s going to be evident over the next two or three days. I think, eventually, we’ll have peace,” the president added.

Trump said he wants to settle the issue by having a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine to save “human lives” on the battlefield. He hopes to achieve some “good results” from the upcoming US-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia.

Trump accused Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky of taking US money like candy from his predecessor, Joe Biden.

Yet, he forgot to mention that almost “70 per cent of that aid was awarded to US firms making ordinances for Ukraine.”

Earlier this past week, Trump had frozen all aid deliveries to Kiev and also restricted sharing the Intel with Ukrainian forces, leaving them vulnerable in front of the renewed Russian offensive in the Kursk Region.

The president has said he finds it “more difficult” to deal with Ukraine than with Russia, as Kiev attempts to mend relations in the wake of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky’s disastrous visit to the White House last month.

Zelensky was about to sign the mineral deal agreement when an unwanted altercation involving Trump, Zelensky, and US Vice President JD Vance spoilt the deal.

Trump accused Zelensky of being ungrateful and disrespectful to the military and financial aid the US has been providing since 2022.

The relations between Kiev and Washington after the diplomatic fallout have been going in an “on and off” mode since the feud on February 28 at the US Oval Office.

Russia has stated that a lasting peace is impossible without addressing the root causes of the conflict, including NATO’s expansion eastward.

Russia has also said Ukraine must renounce its claim on Crimea and four other regions that have voted to become part of Russia since 2014.
