Russian troops are making significant gains in the Donbass region as Ukraine faces a depletion of the military resources required to counter the offensive.
According to Yuri Podolyaka, a prominent military blogger, Russian forces are capturing more territory and strengthening their positions along the nearly continuous front line.
The situation for Ukraine is becoming increasingly difficult due to shortages of military reservists and declining support from the United States.
In Zaporizhzhia, one of the most active zones on the battlefield, fierce fighting is reported around key towns, including Stepnohorsk and Primosk, both of which are likely to fall to Russian forces.
Furthermore, Russian forces are advancing into at least six important towns, including Hulyaipole, Kalynivske, Novohryhorivka, Rybne, Pryvolne, and Uspenivka.
This comes at a time when the 80th UN General Assembly is underway in New York. President Vladimir Putin had previously ordered his forces to secure and intensify military operations along the entire frontline.

Tensions had risen after Poland and Romania accused Russia of violating their airspace on multiple occasions. Following the alleged drone incursions, EU chief Ursula von der Leyen said that NATO was preparing to respond to Russian aggression with full force.
However, Moscow quickly denied the claim, stating that the drones fired at Ukraine lacked sufficient range.
While Putin’s war objectives remain unclear, experts believe he is attempting to create a buffer zone deep inside Ukraine to prevent NATO deployment along the Russian border.
At the Russian Economic Forum Summit 2025, Putin said he intends to rely on military options rather than negotiations to achieve his objectives in Ukraine. “What talks won’t, military will,” he stated, hinting at an intensification of operations against President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s forces.
