Ukrainian forces targeted Russia’s energy infrastructure with a series of massive drone strikes, leaving thousands without power on Sunday night, officials said.

The strikes came a day after a massive attack by Russian armed forces triggered blackouts in several regions across Ukraine. Both sides have carried out retaliatory attacks on each other's energy infrastructure since the start of the war in 2022.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he is ready to hold talks with his US counterpart. He confirmed that he is ready to hold detailed negotiations with the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, but that Russia would not abandon its core conditions for ending the war in Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump’s efforts to mediate a ceasefire between the two nations have so far failed. Last month, he suddenly cancelled his planned summit with President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, saying, “Ukraine and Russia must find a way to end the conflict,” and that the US is not going to waste time negotiating with Putin.”

However, the Kremlin dismissed claims that Russia is ready to give concessions to Ukraine for a peace deal.

"Secretary of State Marco Rubio and I understand the need for regular communication," Lavrov said. “It’s important to discuss the Ukrainian issue and advance the bilateral agenda. That is the reason we communicate with each other,” he said.

Furthermore, the Russian Ministry of Defence on Sunday said that its forces had captured the settlement of Rybne in Ukraine's southern Zaporizhzhia region.

The Defence Ministry said in a statement on Telegram that Russian troops had managed to seize control of the area "despite shelling and constant hostile drone attacks."

Moreover, the Russian forces claim they are on the verge of inflicting a massive and crushing defeat on Ukrainian forces in the Kupiansk and Pokrovsk regions.
