The ongoing situation in Lebanon is dire, with more than 100,000 people having fled to Syria due to escalating tensions. According to the United Nations, over 200,000 individuals have been displaced from southern Lebanon alone as evacuation orders have been issued by the Israeli military. The warnings from the Israeli Defense Forces include evacuation orders affecting around 30 villages in southern Lebanon.

As the conflict continues, the number of displaced individuals is expected to grow. Stephane Dujarric, the chief spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, reported that more than 60,000 people in northern Israel are also currently displaced from their homes. This alarming trend highlights the urgent humanitarian needs in the region.

In response to the increasing crisis, the UN Refugee Agency is ramping up its emergency efforts. They are working with various partners to provide vital humanitarian assistance and protection to those who have been displaced. This includes essential supplies such as food, water, and hygiene kits.

The United Nations is also supporting the Lebanese government's efforts to address the growing humanitarian crisis. They are supplying food, nutritional support for children, and other necessary items like mattresses and hygiene kits. The UN Children’s Fund has provided aid to nearly 200 collective shelters, which are currently hosting about 50,000 displaced individuals.

On Tuesday, the UN Secretary-General made a passionate appeal to the international community, urging support for the $426 million emergency flash humanitarian appeal launched in Beirut.

This funding is aimed at providing humanitarian assistance to 1 million people over the next three months. Dujarric emphasised the critical need for these resources, stating that without them, humanitarian organisations could leave an entire population without the support they desperately require.

Imran Riza, the humanitarian coordinator in Lebanon, has cautioned that a lack of sufficient resources could have devastating consequences. The reality is that many individuals and families are at risk of going without basic needs if the necessary funding is not secured.
