UNGA adopts resolution urging Hamas to free hostages.

The UN General Assembly has adopted a French and Saudi-backed resolution demanding that Hamas release all hostages while ending its rule in Gaza and handing over weapons to the Palestinian Authority.

The resolution endorsed by the Arab League and 17 member states calls for collective action to end the Gaza war and lays the groundwork for a sovereign Palestinian state.

The move comes ahead of the September 22 summit, where French President Emmanuel Macron plans to formally recognise Palestine, adding pressure on Israel to end the conflict.

Israel rejected a UN declaration that outlines steps towards a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Israeli authorities have rejected the UN-endorsed two-state solution, saying that it is not acceptable to Israel. In his post on X, Israeli foreign ministry spokesperson Oren Marmorstein said the declaration demonstrated the General Assembly was a "political circus detached from reality."

Marmorstein wrote, "In the dozens of clauses of the declaration endorsed by this resolution, there is not a single mention that Hamas is a terrorist organisation.”

“The resolution does not indicate a solution of peace; rather, it encourages Hamas to continue the war,” he added.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that there will never be a Palestinian state after he signed the controversial annexation military order.

Further, the tensions between Spain and Israel have escalated to unprecedented levels in recent days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez of issuing a "genocidal threat" against Israel.

Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles responded by saying, “Netanyahu has no credibility in lecturing anyone while committing the atrocities in Gaza.”

The Spanish government on Monday announced measures to put an end to the Gaza genocide, including an arms embargo and a ban on fuel shipments.”

Sanchez, while taking a swipe at Netanyahu, said, "Spain does not have nuclear bombs. Nor does it have aircraft carriers or large oil reserves. We alone cannot stop the Israeli offensive, but that does not mean we will stop trying.”
