US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the Iranian side had leaked the details of the MoU and that Tehran was derailing the actual terms and conditions of the deal. Trump slammed the Iranian side for dishonouring the peace deal, saying Iranians cannot be trusted. Certainly, JD Vance has been talking in the last couple of hours.
Vance said the US was not going to sign or lift financial sanctions on Iran until they meet certain benchmarks, and only then would a deal be considered.
He said the US will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, while Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz— both issues remain important to the United States.
“My understanding is that the deal that has been agreed upon was very close to what was being discussed in the last few weeks, but the Americans wanted to make sure there was clarity in the words— no ambiguity, no possibility of Iran managing to wriggle out of any of the commitments they are making.”
“It’s clear that the deal is getting closer and closer every single day.
”Vance said Trump is not happy with the Iranian side, but he remains hopeful that a deal could be signed any day.
Meanwhile, a major point of contention between the two sides is uranium, which Iran refuses to hand over to a third country.
Iranian officials, including Chief Negotiator Mohammad Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmael Baghaei, have accused Trump of being an unreliable partner in the peace process.
While the majority of the international community is praying for the peace deal, it remains highly unlikely that Iran would agree to peace given Israeli actions in Lebanon.
