Bangladesh Received Over 212 Million Dollars from US in 2023.

The United States has significantly supported Bangladesh financially, with over USD 212 million provided in aid during the fiscal year 2023, according to State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller. In a recent media briefing, Miller detailed this substantial financial commitment, highlighting its role in economic development and health assistance for Bangladesh.

Miller emphasised that this aid forms a crucial part of the broader relationship between the two nations. Since 2017, the U.S. has offered nearly USD 2 billion in humanitarian aid specifically to support Rohingya refugees, underlining America's ongoing commitment to addressing regional crises and supporting vulnerable populations.

In addition to the financial aid, Miller stressed the importance of addressing recent violence in Bangladesh with a comprehensive and transparent investigation. He reiterated that supporting the democratic aspirations of the Bangladeshi people is vital for ensuring a stable and democratic governance framework in the country.

This announcement follows the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who stepped down amid escalating violence and unrest. The resignation, which came after a severe crackdown on protests, has led to the formation of an interim government as declared by General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Army Chief of Bangladesh. The protests, initially focused on job quotas, grew into broader demands for Hasina's removal, culminating in significant casualties and injuries in Dhaka.

Miller’s remarks highlight the U.S. commitment to not only providing financial support but also to advocating for democratic values and human rights amidst the current political turmoil in Bangladesh.

The situation underscores the need for international support and intervention to foster a peaceful resolution and support the democratic aspirations of the Bangladeshi people.
