US President Donald Trump has said that the United States is actively following the drone warfare developments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, proving the assertions of the anti-war experts that the battle zone was a new testing ground for American technologies. During Saturday's West Point Military Academy passing out parade, Trump said the US is “learning” from the tactics used by Moscow and Kyiv and that it was important to stay “at the top” amid the rapidly changing nature of warfare.
"We are studying it. We are seeing different forms of warfare; we are seeing the drones that are coming down at angles, with speed and precision. We have never seen anything like that. We are learning from it,” the president said, referring to their use in the current struggle. He later told cadets to have the courage to take risks and perform “differently to stay up-to-date with the evolving warfare tactics and military strategies."
His comments after several reports suggested that Russia was comprehensively beating Ukraine in “drone warfare when it comes to production and their deployment in the battle-contested zones against Ukrainian armed forces. It particularly pointed to the fibre optic drone types connected directly to their operators through a gossamer-thin fibre optic thread that makes them difficult to detect or intercept. Such drones are “essentially a wire-guided, highly manoeuvrable killer drone, impervious to jamming, and difficult to track by radio-based drone detector units,” reports citing defence sources said.
Further, “The Russian UAVs were 'altering the physical make-up of the front line, the tactics of the war and the psychology of the soldiers fighting it' and were 'devastating' the Ukrainian military’s logistics in the process. Earlier, experts pointed out that the US arms manufacturers were supplying untested weapons to the Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian operators reported several issues with US ordnance, particularly the failure of drones. The reports then confirmed that US arms manufacturers were using the real-time feedback to upgrade and improve the technology in these weapons.
