US must accept nuclear power status of North Korea: Kim

"While Trump and her brother Kim have a good relationship, by no means would North Korea ever agree to denuclearise or give up its weapons of deterrence. If the US fails to accept the changed reality and persists in the failed past, the DPRK-US meeting will remain as a ‘hope’ of the US side."

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's sister has asked the United States to accept North Korea's "irreversible" status as a nuclear weapons state, adding that negotiations in any capacity will never lead to its denuclearisation.

In an official statement run by the KCNA on Tuesday, Kim Yo Jong said Pyongyang’s “capabilities and geopolitical environment” have drastically changed over the years.

"Any attempt to deny the position of the DPRK as a nuclear state would be rejected by the people and leadership of the country with utmost force. The DPRK is open to any option in defending its present national position," she stated.

The influential leaders who take care of the workers' party's communication operations said it is by "no means beneficial" for the US and North Korea to be in confrontation and that Washington should "seek another way of contact based on such new thinking."

She said, "While Trump and her brother Kim have a good relationship, by no means would North Korea ever agree to denuclearise or give up its weapons of deterrence. If the US fails to accept the changed reality and persists in the failed past, the DPRK-US meeting will remain as a ‘hope’ of the US side."

Her comments came after South Korea’s media outlet quoted a source saying US President Donald Trump was open to engaging with Kim Jong-un to achieve a "fully denuclearised" North Korea.

Earlier on Monday, she ruled out any form of negotiations with the neighbouring South Korea after she accused Seoul of resorting to propaganda and threatening the regional peace by conducting the military drills in the Korean peninsula. Since returning to the White House in January, Trump, who held three face-to-face summits with Kim Jong Un in 2018 and 2019, has repeatedly expressed interest in resuming dialogue with Pyongyang.
