The United States has announced new sanctions targeting Chinese and Pakistani entities involved in supporting Pakistan’s ballistic missile programme.
According to a statement from the US State Department, the sanctions encompass four Chinese firms, one Pakistani company, and one individual.
Matthew Miller, a State Department spokesperson, revealed that the sanctions were imposed on the Beijing Research Institute of Automation for Machine Building Industry (RIAMB).
This institute has collaborated with Pakistan’s National Development Complex (NDC) in developing and producing long-range ballistic missiles, including the Shaheen-3 and Ababeel. RIAMB’s involvement includes procuring equipment for testing large-diameter rocket motors.
The US also sanctioned three other Chinese entities: Hubei Huachangda Intelligent Equipment Company, Universal Enterprise Limited, and Xi’an Longde Technology Development Company Limited (also known as Lontek).
Additionally, Chinese national Luo Dongmei (also known as Steed Luo) was sanctioned for transferring equipment and technology under the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) Annex. These transfers were aimed at supporting MTCR Category I missile programmes in non-MTCR countries.
A Pakistani entity, Innovative Equipment, was also targeted by the sanctions.
The US Department of State emphasised its commitment to addressing proliferation and related procurement activities, regardless of their location.
This move follows similar sanctions imposed in October of the previous year on three China-based companies—General Technology Limited, Beijing Luo Luo Technology Development Co Ltd, and Changzhou Utek Composite Company Ltd.—for supplying components used in missile production.
