US-Ukraine peace negotiations in Miami, Florida, have ended in a stalemate after Kyiv’s delegation, led by National Security Council Chief Rustem Umerov, rejected ceding territory to Russia to end the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that talks ended in deadlock with US negotiators over territorial concessions. The team of negotiators, along with Zelenskyy, arrived in London on Monday, where they met with the leaders of the UK, France and Germany.

Zelenskyy confirmed that he would be sending a peace proposal, prepared with the assistance of his EU backers, to the United States and Russia in the coming days. He said, “US negotiators are in the mood to find compromises. But there are clearly difficult issues regarding territory, and no compromise has been reached there.”

He rejected Russia's demand that Ukraine withdraw troops from parts of Donbas and cede the territory to Russia. “Russia is, of course, insisting that we give up territories. We, naturally, don’t want to do that, and that’s what we’re fighting for,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader claimed that he had managed to remove “anti-Ukrainian” provisions from Trump’s peace plan. Russian demands, on the other hand, are clear: to make peace with Ukraine, it must cede claim on Donbas and Crimea, reduce the number of troops to 600,000, carry out a denazification campaign that Russia believes has surged across the EU and recognise Russian as the official state language.

Trump has since said that the document was modified with additional input from Russia and Ukraine. The President said on Monday that he was “a little disappointed” with Zelenskyy and claimed that he did not read the most recent US proposal.
