As tensions grow in the Middle East grow and the war in Gaza enters the second year with millions displaced and in need of humanitarian aid, Israeli forces have again restricted the number of trucks with essential supplies entering Gaza.
The US, during its briefing in the United Nations Security Council, said Israel needs to urgently address “catastrophic conditions” among Palestinian civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip and stop “intensifying suffering” by limiting aid deliveries.
Referring to reports of the devastation in south and central Gaza, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said: “These catastrophic conditions were predicted months ago, and yet, have still not been addressed. That must change, and now.
Tensions between Israel and several European and African nations have risen following its military conduct in Gaza, recent examples include Slovenia and France.
Slovenia in a recently held UNGA session told Israel to stop the war in Gaza, saying it was causing unprecedented destruction.
On the other hand, French President Emmanuel Macron, in a recent statement, said his government will limit weapons supplies to Israel amid its action in the former French colony Lebanon.
"We call upon Israel to take immediate steps to do so, Thomas-Greenfield asserted. “We need to see fewer barriers and stoppages to the delivery of aid,” not more of them, she added.
She also mentioned the recent Israeli orders for civilians in Gaza’s north to evacuate again, saying they (Gazans) must be able to return to their homes and communities to rebuild the infrastructure.
“There must be no demographic or territorial change in the Gaza Strip, including any actions that reduce the territory of Gaza,” Thomas-Greenfield said.
Israel has again struck the Gaza North, saying its forces killed multiple Hamas operatives, while it continues its offensive in southern Lebanon.
After the October 7 attack by Hamas in Israel, the Gaza invasion has led to the displacement of over 1.5 million, whereas 600,000 persons have been displaced in Lebanon post-Israeli offensive, as per UN reports.
According to recent reports, some of the displaced in Lebanon have fled to neighbouring Syria, which is virtually destroyed by its own ongoing war.
