At least 13 people were injured when a car ploughed into a crowd outside the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona, shortly after a La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Espanyol, according to local authorities cited by CNN.
The Catalan Police, in a statement shared on social media, described the incident as an "accidental collision" and assured that the situation was "under control" and posed "no risk to people inside the sports facility".
Catalonia's emergency services reported that 13 people were receiving medical treatment for their injuries. In a follow-up post, the Catalan Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle had been detained.
"The injured people are being treated by emergency services and the driver of the vehicle has been arrested," the police stated, adding, "There is a large police presence in the area."

Videos circulating on social media, geolocated by CNN, appear to show a white car driving through a crowd in a park adjacent to the stadium. According to emergency services, nine of the injured suffered "minor injuries" while four others were in "less than serious" condition.
The incident occurred following FC Barcelona's 2-0 victory over Espanyol, a result that secured the Catalan side their 28th La Liga title for the 2024-25 season.
The fierce rivalry between the two clubs often mirrors the political tensions in Catalonia, with FC Barcelona traditionally representing Catalan nationalism while Espanyol is seen as aligning with Spanish state loyalists.
