United States President Donald Trump has said 25,000 American citizens would have died if the submarine loaded with drugs from Venezuela had been allowed to enter the US mainland.
A video posted by the Pentagon on X showed black and white footage of the strike in which a semi-submersible vessel could be seen gliding over waves before it was struck with bombs. Trump said the US military has destroyed a suspected drug-carrying submarine navigating toward American shores on a well-known narco-trafficking route in the Caribbean.
Trump’s latest post on his Truth Social said, "It was my great honour to destroy a very large DRUG-CARRYING SUBMARINE that was navigating towards the United States on a well-known narco-trafficking transit route."
“US intel sources confirmed that the vessel was loaded up with mostly fentanyl and other illegal narcotics.” He said that “The two surviving terrorists are being returned to their countries of origin, Ecuador and Colombia, for detention and prosecution."

No US forces were hurt in the strike under my watch, and people must understand that the United States of America will not tolerate narco-terrorists trafficking illegal drugs, by land or by sea." The death toll from the US military action against the drug vessels has now reached 29. Trump has defended the strikes, saying that “the US is engaged in an armed conflict with drug cartels.”
The US has deployed a small US Navy fleet consisting of 8 warships, including the powerful destroyers and one nuclear-powered submarine, near the shores of Venezuela to prevent drug cartels from importing drugs to the US mainland. The Venezuelan government and some of the Trump critics have said these attacks are actually aimed at forcing regime change for the vast mineral resources Caracas possesses.
