The conflict between the United States and Iran has further intensified with the two countries carrying out fresh rounds of attacks that threaten to spiral into a deepening military confrontation.
US forces launched more airstrikes targeting Iranian missile and drone infrastructure, particularly assets seen as threatening shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes reportedly left dozens killed and many more injured in southern parts of Iran.
Tehran responded with retaliatory drone and missile attacks on US military facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
The battle over the control of Hormuz has escalated with Washington moving to reinforce a naval blockade and Iran threatening to disrupt global energy supplies by targeting key shipping lanes.
The situation worsened following strong warnings issued by US President Donald Trump that they would target critical Iranian infrastructure like power plants and bridges if the situation continues to deteriorate.
The fallout is already being felt beyond the battlefield with rising oil prices, growing risks to international shipping and rising apprehensions that the conflict could spiral into a broader war across the Middle East.
