President Donald Trump has announced plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, aiming to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Speaking aboard Air Force One en route from Florida to Washington on Sunday evening, President Trump revealed the forthcoming conversation, stating, "We will see if we have something to announce maybe by Tuesday. I will be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday."

He added, "A lot of work's been done over the weekend. We want to see if we can bring that war to an end."

The conflict, now in its third year, has seen Russia maintain control over significant portions of Ukrainian territory.

Discussions between the two leaders are expected to address critical issues, including territorial disputes and the management of power infrastructure.

President Trump indicated that these topics would be central to the talks, mentioning, "We will be talking about land. We will be talking about power plants."

Recent diplomatic efforts have shown signs of progress. U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff reported that President Putin has shown a willingness to accept President Trump's approach to ending the war.

A proposed 30-day ceasefire, initially met with resistance from Russia, has now garnered tentative support from Moscow. However, key issues remain unresolved, particularly concerning the status of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, which are currently under partial Russian control.

Russia has also stipulated specific conditions for any peace agreement. Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko emphasized the need for "ironclad" guarantees that Ukraine will remain neutral and be excluded from NATO membership.

He stated that Russia firmly opposes any NATO deployment in Ukraine, including peacekeeping forces from Western nations. Grushko suggested that only unarmed, civilian observers could be considered once a peace agreement is established.

The international community is closely monitoring these developments, hopeful that the upcoming dialogue between Presidents Trump and Putin may lead to a cessation of hostilities and pave the way for a lasting peace in the region.
