Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused China and India of extending help to Russia in its war against Kyiv. Chinese mercenaries are actively taking part in the war, and drones launched by Russia are equipped with Indian-supplied parts, he said.

While China has denied any involvement in the war, saying that “Beijing is a neutral party to the conflict and wants a complete ceasefire,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said in a statement. On Wednesday, China urged its citizens to stay away from conflict in Ukraine, after Zelensky claimed that foreign “mercenaries” had joined the war.

Zelensky on Monday claimed that his army in northeastern Ukraine was tackling the fighting of foreign "mercenaries” from various countries, including Pakistan. He said in a post on X that “Our armed forces in a particular sector are seeing participation of the foreign mercenaries from China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and African nations in the ongoing war. But warned that we will respond accordingly.

Apart from China, Pakistan has also slammed Zelensky for baseless and unfounded” claims. Islamabad said that it will take up these claims with the Ukrainian side to clarify the issue. Reports citing the Ukrainian investigation documents showed two Indian firms, Vishay Inter-technology and Aura Semiconductor, had electronic parts found inside Shahed-136 drones.

While Ukraine has officially raised the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs of India, during the visit of the EU sanctions envoy, David O’Sullivan, to New Delhi in July. A PLL-based signal generator, the AU5426A chip made by Aura Semiconductor, was found in the drone’s navigation antenna, which helps the drone to avoid jamming, they said.

However, India responded to concerns that neither of the two companies was found to be violating any law of the country, as the components supplied to Russia are of a dual-purpose nature. The allegations are strengthened by the claims of the United States, as reports citing US sources accused both India and China of doing secret trade with Russia while funding its war against Ukraine.
