Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for a ceasefire with Russia along the current front lines. His comments came following a meeting with United States President Donald Trump, who also issued similar appeals on his Truth Social post.
“We have to stop where we are. The president is right,” Zelenskyy told reporters in Washington, DC, on Friday. With that, both sides could then hammer out the next steps toward a definitive peace deal.
“Yes, both sides have to stop,” Zelenskyy said. This is Zelenskyy’s third meeting with Trump; the earlier US president spoke to the Russian president on a phone call during which the two leaders exchanged views on the ongoing peace process and implications of the US supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine.

He has previously expressed frustration over the lack of progress in his efforts to mediate peace between the two countries. In his latest Truth Social post, Trump urged both Zelenskyy and Putin to “stop the killing and make a DEAL!”
His post read, “Enough blood has been shed, with property lines being defined by War and Guts. They should stop where they are. Let both claim Victory, let History decide! No more shooting, no more Death, no more vast and unsustainable sums of money spent.”
Meanwhile, Russia has constantly said that for a ceasefire to work, Ukraine must withdraw its forces occupying parts of the Russian region liberated in 2014, with recognition of new borders, and denazification of the country.
