Polling for phase II of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls began at 7 am, amid tight security arrangements.
Over 25 lakh voters will vote in 26 assembly segments to determine the fate of 239 candidates in the fray.
Phase two covers 26 assembly segments spread over six districts of the Jammu and Kashmir division, separated by Pir Panjal ranges.
As per ECI, they have established 3,502 polling stations, out of which 1,056 are urban and 2,446 are rural polling stations. All of these polling stations have live webcasting facilities to ensure free and transparent elections.
Apart from normal polling stations, there are 157 special polling booths; of these, 26 are managed by women, and specially-abled people; another 26, 26 are managed by youth, and 31 are border polling stations.
Furthermore, the commission has also established 26 green polling stations and 22 unique polling stations — as special polling stations.
The voting will conclude at 6 pm.
Among the big names up for polls are former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, JKPCC president Tariq Hamid Karra, and Bharatiya Janata Party J-K chief Ravinder Raina, are among the key faces in the fray for the second phase.
While Abdullah is fighting from the Ganderbal and Budgam seats, Karra is contesting from central Kashmir’s Shalteng constituency. BJP’s UT Chief Ravinder Raina, who is seeking a return to the assembly, is contesting from Rajouri’s Nowshera seat.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened across the entire assembly constituencies for polls in this phase to ensure smooth conduct of the polling process.
