The community which was forced to flee from the valley in the early 90s under fear of militancy demanded their permanent return and rehabilitation with guarantee of peace and security.

In Pulwama district, Pampore witnessed a turnout of 35.70%, Tral recorded 32.87%, Pulwama 40.20%, and Rajpora saw 38.63%. Zainapora registered 45.40%, while Shopian recorded a strong turnout of 48.40%.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi also criticised the removal of J&K’s statehood, calling it a violation of constitutional rights.

This marks the first Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and the loss of statehood in 2019.

Rajpora had 31.04%, Zainapora recorded 37.11%, and Shopian saw 40.45%. D.H. Pora led with 43.66%, while Kulgam followed with 39.75%. Devsar reported 36.78%, and Dooru recorded 41.30%, while Kokernag (ST) registered 41.00%.

The highest turnout was reported at Inderwal at 40.36 per cent, followed by Doda West at 35.08 per cent and Ramban at 32.85 per cent.

“Today, come out of your homes in the largest of numbers possible and exercise your democratic right — vote for INDIA,” Gandhi added.

PM Modi will be in J&K tomorrow for a poll rally, and while addressing a question regarding his rally, Abdullah said the VIP visit will not have any impact on the ongoing polls.

As per reports, the voters thronged the polling stations early morning before 7 am.

Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir has said Mir, who is contesting the polls from the Dooru constituency in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, said the intent behind voting is to “change Delhi’s rule” in Jammu and Kashmir.
