National Conference )resident Dr Farooq Abdullah said on Tuesday that the people's mandate in the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) t of the J&K assembly elections reflects that “it’s a verdict against the centre’s move of August 2019.”
Talking to reporters he said his son, party Vice-President Omar Abdullah, will be the next CM of J&K and that the NC-Congress alliance will fulfil the aspirations of the people here.
The 2024 assembly elections have been historic in J&K as the majority of the sections in J&K voted to elect their representatives after ten years.
NC is emerging as the single largest party by winning 38 and leading in four more, while BJP won 26 and was leading in three more seats.
The Congress, although it has performed poorly given its resurgence on the national level, managed to bag five seats and was leading in one more.
The Peoples Democratic Party, Apni party, People’s Conference, and Democratic Progressive Azad Party are among the big losers in the elections; most of these parties have failed to secure even one seat.
Among the big names losing in the elections are BJP UT Chief Ravinder Raina, who lost against Surinder Kumar Choudhary, and Iltija Mufti, who lost to NC’s Bashir Ahmad Veeri.
The Apni party's Chief Altaf Bukhari lost to NC’s Mushtaq Guroo by a margin of more than 5,000 votes.
However, big names like Omar Abdullah and Sajad Lone have secured easy victories in the elections.
Omar Abdullah, who contested from two seats of Budgam and Ganderbal, won the former by a margin of 9,766 votes and was leading in the other.
Earlier he had dismissed the exit polls predictions of a close fight between the BJP and the INDIA block, tweeting, "If you pay for exit polls or waste time discussing them, you deserve all the jokes/memes/ridicule. There was a reason I called them a waste of time a few days ago."
