Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s brother, Basant Soren, won the Dumka assembly seat by 14,588 votes on Saturday, according to the Election Commission.
BJP candidate Sunil Soren secured second place with 81,097 votes, while the JMM candidate received 95,685 votes.
Basant Soren had previously won the Dumka seat in a 2020 bypoll, defeating BJP’s Lois Marandi by 6,842 votes.
In the 2019 elections, Hemant Soren contested both the Barhait and Dumka seats, winning both. He later vacated the Dumka seat, which allowed his brother Basant to be elected in the bypoll.
Meanwhile, state minister Rameshwar Oraon of the Congress retained the Lohardaga seat, defeating AJSU Party’s Neeru Shanti Bhagat by 34,670 votes, as per the Election Commission.
