Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sharp dig at Jharkhand’s Congress-JMM-RJD coalition government, accusing it of rampant corruption, nepotism, and unfulfilled promises, during a rally in Garhwa.
This historic visit marks the first appearance of a sitting Prime Minister in the region.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd, Modi alleged misuse of public funds allocated for water infrastructure, saying, “I have also received reports of corrupt public representatives here. They didn’t even spare water taps meant for you.”
He further claimed that funds intended for public welfare were siphoned off.
“Wherever there are BJP governments, Har Ghar Jal is a success. But here in Jharkhand, despite our efforts, it’s stalled by JMM and Congress leaders who’ve filled their coffers with that money,” Modi added.
Highlighting other issues, Modi said, “This area has become a centre for sand smuggling. Jharkhand's government has become a slave to the mafia, with people forced to migrate as businesses close down while the trade of ‘transfer-posting’ flourishes.”
Modi criticised the coalition’s approach to governance, particularly accusing it of catering to appeasement policies. “JMM, Congress, and RJD have pushed appeasement to new levels, even accommodating Bangladeshi infiltrators across Jharkhand,” he alleged.
He highlighted incidents that have led to communal tensions and restrictions on religious observances.
The PM also denounced what he described as the nepotism within the coalition. “They believe power belongs to their families. They insult anyone outside their circle, including Champai Soren, a tribal leader they’ve repeatedly undermined,” he said.
He took aim at the Congress party’s electoral promises, asserting, “Since independence, Congress has built its politics on deceit. They’ve lied to people, and even the Congress President admitted recently that these ‘guarantees’ are absurd and will bankrupt states.”
Modi reminded the audience of unfulfilled pledges, including the Congress-JMM government’s promise of unemployment allowances, which he said had yet to materialise. “They want nothing more than to rule and enrich themselves at the expense of the people of Jharkhand,” he concluded.
