A newlywed couple from Jaipur, India, has found a quirky way to fund their honeymoon. We know how expensive honeymoons can get, especially after a full-blown big fat Indian wedding, which is a lavish affair in itself.
Jeet Ajmera, 27, and Shreya Jain, 28, got married in December 2023 after four years of meeting each other and surviving the COVID pandemic during their relationship.
After the wedding, the next step was the honeymoon. "We wanted to do something crazy. We thought, can someone sponsor our honeymoon? Honestly, the idea came just like that. One moment, we were sitting and talking, and then the next moment, you know, we were making a deck to reach out to brands. Our crazy matches" says Jeet while talking about how they both came up with the idea and who initiated it.
They worked it out pretty soon and decided to make a series out of honeymoon episodes.
"Then came the idea of "honest honeymoon," an Instagram-first reel-based content IP series where they want to showcase the real side of the honeymoon, he says.
Shreya defines "honest honeymoon" as "adventurous, crazy and a bit of chaos." It's not a typical "mushy-mushy affair. "It's a blend of heartwarming romance and laugh-out-loud comedy. Think of it as a sitcom solving mysteries of love and laundry," she says.
Jeet says that earlier, reaching out to brands for sponsorship was a little difficult. "No one replied. We changed our email, but still no replies. We posted on X (Twitter) but got no replies. Then we changed our subject line, and voila, it worked. Brands started responding. After a lot of trial and error, we finally found a sponsor. We are still looking for more brands to fund the remaining goal, but at least we are onto a start."
The couple is still raising funds, but they have already received a good headstart with many brands lining up to sponsor their honeymoon.
Jeet and Shreya have picked the most common honeymoon-ey place ever—Bali. They plan to go there in April.
Jeet and Shreya met while working at Jaipur Rugs. "It was an office romance," says Shreya. "We took our own time, had a lot of ups and downs, but steered through it all by just always believing in each other."
Though Shreya was keen on doing a small function, Jeet wasn't sure about it. "He wanted a proper wedding with lots of dancing," she says.
"Our families, like most families, wanted a big fat Indian wedding, so somewhere, we did something along those lines. It was neither a big fat nor a small temple show. In other words, we had a big fun wedding, a lot of fun," she says.
Nearly 250 guests attended their wedding at a hotel in Jaipur.
Jeet and Shreya are excited for their honeymoon. "But if Bali doesn't work out for some reason, we might pick Lakshadweep," they say.
