As many as 21 electronic voting machines (EVMs) were replaced by election authorities in Maharashtra’s Hingoli assembly constituency after being found faulty during mock polls, officials said. They added that this did not affect the voting process at the affected booths.
Voting for the assembly elections is currently underway in the Basmath, Hingoli, and Kalamnuri constituencies in Hingoli district, part of the Marathwada region.
Mock drills were conducted at all booths in the district before polling began on Wednesday morning.
“During these mock drills, 21 EVMs were found to be faulty, after which they were replaced with new machines. This did not disrupt the voting process at the respective booths,” the official said.
By 9 am, 7.12 per cent of voters had cast their votes in Basmath, and 5.78 per cent in Kalamnuri, the official added.
