In the high-profile Baramati constituency, Maharashtra Deputy CM and NCP leader Ajit Pawar is set for a decisive win over his nephew and NCP (SP) challenger Yugendra Pawar, who received strong backing from Sharad Pawar.
Ajit Pawar, seeking an eighth term from Baramati, has secured 129,993 votes according to the latest Election Commission update, leading by 72,809 votes after 14 rounds of counting.
His election in-charge, Kiran Gujar, claimed that Pawar's lead had grown to 88,782 votes after the 18th round of counting, out of a total of 20 rounds.
The elections for Maharashtra's 288 constituencies were held on November 20, with counting continuing on Saturday.
As per the latest trends, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP is on track for a strong performance, leading in 36 seats and having won four. In contrast, the Sharad Pawar-led NCP is ahead in 11 seats and has won one.
Ajit Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, a Rajya Sabha member, thanked the people of Baramati, expressing hope that her husband's lead would exceed 100,000 votes.
"I am grateful to the people of Baramati for once again placing their trust in Ajit Pawar and rallying behind him. They have shown that Baramati is his family," she said. She also attributed his victory to the development he has brought to Baramati.
Notably, Ajit Pawar had won Baramati in 2019 by a record margin of 165,265 votes.
In another significant contest in Pune district, NCP candidate and sitting MLA Dilip Walse Patil is leading NCP (SP) candidate Devdatta Nikam by 2,542 votes after the 16th round of counting in the Ambegaon constituency. Walse Patil has polled 87,595 votes, while Nikam has secured 85,053 votes.
Meanwhile, NCP (SP) candidate Harshavardhan Patil, who left the BJP ahead of the elections, is trailing against his NCP rival and sitting MLA Dattatray Bharne in the Indapur constituency.
Bharne has polled 60,925 votes, while Patil has received 45,266 votes, according to the Election Commission update.
