PM Modi's Remarks Against Congress Spark Response From Maharashtra Assembly LoP Vijay Wadettiwar.

Maharashtra Assembly Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar recently responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticisms of the Congress party, which included accusations of making “fake promises.” Wadettiwar’s rebuttal was directed at Modi's comments concerning inflation, Minimum Support Price (MSP), and the Ladli Behna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh, emphasising the disconnect between the BJP's claims and the realities faced by the public.

Wadettiwar expressed confidence that the electorate is aware of who is truly delivering on their promises. He pointed to the Congress party’s commitment to honesty, using Telangana as an example of their success.

He stated, “The people of the country know who lies and who makes false promises. They have talked about giving MSP; now look at the soybean rate. They have talked about reducing inflation, but now inflation has crossed all the limits.” His comments underscore a growing frustration with the BJP’s handling of economic issues, especially since they hold power at both the state and national levels.

The Leader of Opposition criticised the BJP for its handling of agricultural prices, specifically mentioning the rising costs of fertiliser. He accused the ruling party of deceiving farmers by failing to keep their promises about lowering fertiliser prices.

“They talked about lowering the prices of manure. A 50 kg bag of fertiliser used to be around Rs 400; now it is Rs 1600. They increased the price of urea but reduced the bag size by 10 kg. Isn’t this cheating with farmers?” he asked, highlighting the financial strain that many farmers are experiencing.

Wadettiwar’s remarks came in response to a series of tweets from Prime Minister Modi, in which he accused Congress of failing to deliver on their election promises. Modi claimed that the Congress party is realising that while it is easy to make unrealistic promises, fulfilling them is a much tougher task. He argued that Congress has consistently made grand promises during campaigns, knowing well that they are unlikely to deliver on them.

In his tweets, Modi pointed out the challenges facing Congress-ruled states, arguing that their “developmental trajectory and fiscal health is turning from bad to worse” in states like Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana.

The Prime Minister also alleged that Congress’s unfulfilled promises have misled vulnerable groups, including the poor, youth, farmers, and women, and that ongoing welfare schemes are being neglected.

Wadettiwar’s comments reflect a broader strategy of the Congress party as it seeks to regain support in Maharashtra. With the upcoming elections on November 20, where votes will be counted on November 23, the political atmosphere is charged, and both parties are keen to sway public opinion. The Congress party is attempting to assert itself against the BJP, emphasising the need for transparency and accountability in governance.
