The Centre informed Parliament on Friday that more than 1.25 crore cases have been filed through the judiciary’s e-Filing system as the e-Courts Mission Mode Project continues to expand digital services across courts in the country.
The e-Courts Mission Mode Project is being implemented in phases to strengthen the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the judicial system. As part of the initiative, several digital services have been rolled out across High Courts and district courts, including the Case Information System (CIS) 4.0, e-Filing, e-Payments, video conferencing, virtual courts, digital case records, the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), eSewa Kendras, the National Service and Tracking of Electronic Processes (NSTEP), and the eCourts Services Portal and mobile application.
The e-Filing platform enables litigants and lawyers to file cases, written statements, replies and other court applications online. According to data available till June 30, 2026, e-Filing rules have been implemented in 25 High Courts, including the High Court of Uttarakhand and all district courts under its jurisdiction.As of June 30, a total of 1,25,87,329 cases had been filed through the e-Filing system across the country, including 20,18,013 cases in High Courts and 1,05,69,316 cases in district courts.
Bombay High Court and the district courts under its jurisdiction recorded the highest number of e-filed cases at over 34.76 lakh, followed by the Madras High Court and subordinate courts with more than 27.81 lakh cases. Delhi district courts accounted for over 19.12 lakh e-filed cases.
In Uttarakhand, 1,17,924 cases have been filed through the e-Filing system, including 356 before the High Court of Uttarakhand and 1,17,568 in district courts.To encourage wider adoption of the platform, the Supreme Court’s eCommittee, in coordination with High Courts, has organised training programmes, capacity-building workshops and orientation sessions for judicial officers, court staff and advocates through State Judicial Academies and High Courts. User manuals, standard operating procedures, FAQs and video tutorials have also been prepared to facilitate the use of the platform.
The government also said eSewa Kendras have been established across the country to assist litigants and advocates with registration on the e-Filing portal, scanning and uploading petitions, online payment of court fees and other e-Filing-related services.The information was shared by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
